(knowing who to love, and when)

Perhaps, it was the morning

on the day before we met.

My eyes reflected against

the pane and the sun.

As I squinted, I knew not of

the beauty awaiting

Nor the way different

worlds were the same.

Your shadow covered both

my pleasure and pain.

As your kiss on my closed

eyelids made me see,

It was easy to believe

and understand:

It is only knowing who

to love, and when.

You're not a stranger,

not to me.

I was born in your

shadow tonight,

And when the next light washes

the folds of my face,

My eyes will have opened

with yours at the dawn.
