There is red in your beard,

scarlet on your sleeve,

Fore you have shouldered

swords in battle

And took the risk of

those who cared.

You have fought hard,

long, and too often,

In the names of honor,

revenge or duty.

You have walked in

foreign countries

And tasted their wine,

women and hearts.

Though you have asked

only how,

There has been a certain

glory in the task,

A certain shame in what

was done, or not.

Your honor is that which

you have known

But that you have never

said, or shared.
